All those who are ignorant are dalits. The origin of dalits is as old as the Mauryan empire but it was after Pushyamitra Sung’s rule that all Buddhists were declared untouchables and pushed to abysmal corner of society,to exist without voice, identity or any public participation. To escape these, they have migrated to urban centers but there, too, their status remains the same. Hence, they should return to their native places and, unite and awaken those still tied to the place and their culture. Urban areas are equally discriminatory offering them such honourless works as scavenging and flushing of toilets. Buddha, Kabir, Achhutanand’s and Osho’s promethean efforts for social equality has been significant was the contribution of Ravidas and Chokhamal. In modern times, Naryan Guru and Gandhi made similar efforts. Ambedker’s embracing of Buddhism was a symbolic message for both dalits and non-dalits. He affirm by this act of his that all dalits were originally Buddhists and so they should return to their origin. But dalits are slumbering amidst change all around them. They have be aware of the philosophy of crusade and change in an organized manner to uplift themselves and regain their lost glory.
