The booklet, divided in six chapters, mentions libelous attacks on the outcastes throughout the history. The original inhabitants of India, i.e. Dravids and Kols, were defeated by the Aryans. They invented the Varna system with birth as its basis and forced the vanquished to be their slaves. Then Ksthriyas were defeated at the hands of Brahmans, who usurped the authority of kingship, designing this institution in the light of their own preferences. Shudras were deprived of all rights to education and reading of the Vedas. Thus, option less they were forced into the service of the upper castes. They were humiliated and even eliminated. Their only escape was in their conversion to Islam or Christianity. Ambedkar battled for respect and pride of these Dalits. He opted for Buddhism, as Hindu religion was parasitic and autocratic rather than humanistic. Buddhism negates varna and superstitious beliefs in god or soul. It preaches humanism, compassion, and liberation through one’s own efforts. So, all Dalits should embrace the Buddhist religion.
