The roots of backwardness of India lies with tradition formed with scriptures. Hinduism with its religious and philosophical weapons ostracized majority of population from social participation. This was legitimized in the forms of Varna-system , which ironically got the status of dharma(moral duty).Women were further pushed to social periphery and , here too religion provides the axiological pabulum. Buddhism was and continues to be the real answer to riddle some Hinduism as unlike Hinduism it provides a platform of equality and fraternity based on its ideal of ‘bahujan sukhay bahujan hitay’ .But Buddhism as a philosophy can succeed in ameliorating the condition of Dalits when a charismatic leader from marginalized community emerges to lead them . He should be a leader who feels the pain and aguish of Dalit community and is committed for establishing a casteless society in India.
